Stylishly coupe-like - 2014 Volkswagen CC sedan
Designed and engineered to blend sports car dynamics and dimensions with sedan comfort in a sophisticated package, the CC is the German automaker’s flagship in the United States. The exterior shape of the CC features a masculine shoulder line, which visually connects the front wheel to the taillights, providing the emotional and expressive stance of a sports coupe with the convenience of a sedan.
Combined with a low, rear-swept roofline and well-planted stance, other distinguishing exterior cues include: frameless doors; flowing lines in the side profile; larger, more prominent brand-specific face with bolder cross-strut chrome grille design; and a large panoramic power vent sunroof.
Fresh from a redesign in 2013, the CC carries over into 2014 with few but significant updates, including the introduction of standard navigation and VW Car-Net™ connected services to all CC models. VW Car-Net offers a wealth of security and convenience features, including Automatic Crash Notification, access to roadside assistance, and stolen vehicle location assistance. In addition, VW Car-Net adds: remote vehicle access; boundary and speed alerts; a vehicle health report; and an enhanced POI service. Most of the features can be administered through a handy iPhone® or Android® smartphone app.
A new trim, 2.0T Executive, offers many of the features found on the range-topping CC VR6® 4Motion® Executive. Amenities include: RNS 510 premium navigation system with four-year SiriusXM® Traffic and three-month trial to SiriusXM Travel Link™; Keyless access and push-button start; leather seating surfaces; sunroof; 18-inch “St. Louis” aluminum-alloy wheels; ambient lighting; engineered ebony interior trim, and available Truffle Brown interior.
One brand-new feature found on the Executive trims is a hands-free easy-open trunk feature, which opens the trunk lid with a swipe of a foot under the rear bumper and keys in pocket.
Available in 2.0T Sport, 2.0T R-Line, 2.0T Executive and VR6 4MOTION Executive models, the CC is powered by a 2.0L turbo-charged four-cylinder engine or a 3.6L V6 prime mover. The V6 engine is a refined version of the automaker’s famous narrow-angle V6 that feature cylinder banks that create a “V” angle of just 10.6 degrees – resulting in a more compact sized power plant.
Torque is communicated to the street through the standard six-speed manual gearbox. A six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) automatic transmission with Tiptronic is an available option for the four-cylinder models and standard with the V6. All-wheel drive is also standard with the V6.
Every CC is equipped with a specifically tuned sport suspension and electromechanical power steering with dual-pinions for exceptional, performance-oriented ride and handling characteristics. Control hardware consists of a sophisticated McPherson concept up front, with a triangular wishbone configuration, coil springs, telescopic self-leveling shocks and a stabilizer bar. At the rear, a fully-independent four-link setup includes coil springs, telescopic shocks and a stabilizer bar for the best in control and aggressive handling.
Inside the elegant four-passenger cabin, ergonomically formed sport seats are positioned to sit low and offer improved lateral support to enhance the feeling of connectivity between driver, passengers and machine without a sacrifice in comfort. The split folding rear seats insure utility and versatility as needed, separated by a center roll-top covered fold-down console for drinks and an emergency medical kit.
A leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter are standard equipment, along with chrome finished dial appointments. Full brushed aluminum trim is standard on the Executive and VR6 models. The Sport model incorporates V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces, while the other CC models carry leather-skinned sport seats.
